I wrote a blog post similar to this last year and my mindset has pretty much stated the same when it comes to shopping for clothes. I usually am trying to find quality over quantity. Since I don’t leave the house a ton, I’ve also been trying to find pieces of clothing that I love to wear that are still comfortable but make me feel much more put together. Instead of automatically grabbing bike shorts and a tee, which there is nothing wrong with that and I will still wear that about once a week, I’ve been buying things more like rompers or casual jumpsuits. They’re just as comfortable as the bike shorts and graphic tee, but they make me feel a little more ready for the day without any extra effort. Lately, I would much rather spend $75 on an item that I really love and will wear over and over again than buy 3-4 things for that same price that won’t make it beyond the current season. I’ve also noticed I spend way less time figuring out what to wear each morning because I have a smaller rotation of clothing that I genuinely love reaching for. I thought it would be fun to share a few of the newer pieces I’ve been loving lately, because they’ve quickly become staples in my closet! Happy reading!
Kaiden Pull On Barrel Pants - These pants are a lot like the romper I will talk about below but these pants have quickly become one of my favorite pieces for days when I want to be comfortable but still look a little more styled than just wearing leggings and an oversized tee. The Kaiden Pull-On Barrel Pants have that relaxed, slightly oversized barrel silhouette that Free People does so well (I am just as shocked as you are that I love this style!), and they’re honestly one of the easiest pairs of sweatpants to throw on and go. The cotton fabric is super soft and breathable, and I like the oversized look of the patch pockets and exposed seam which makes them look slightly vintage! I usually wear them with a basic white tank top or tee but it is also cute with an oversized sweatshirt and sneakers. You will see a common theme with all of the pieces on this list but they’re perfect for working from home (LOVE), running around doing errands, or even traveling because I feel like they’re comfortable enough to wear all day even on a plane! But they make me feel a little more put together! I have them in an XL and they are perfect, especially for the length!
Frannie Jumpsuit- This jumpsuit is the only thing I have bought recently that I didn’t initially think “oh this is for working from home”, I was thinking more like a date night outfit! BUT I was wrong! I would wear this dressed up and out on a date night but it is also comfortable to wear working from home. It is 100% cotton and so so light and breezy! I also think that this jumpsuit is an easy throw-on-and-go outfit, add a jean jacket and a baseball cap and flip flops or add a wedge and a cute bag! It’s cute with most layering pieces too for when it’s a little cooler outside, I’ll throw on an oversized denim jacket or a cozy cardigan and it instantly feels like a completely different outfit! I have this in an XL but I probably could have done a large, there is some extra room but I do like the oversized look!
Hot Shot Strappy Romper - This romper is SO comfortable, there is so much extra fabric it feels like a blanket but it still has spaghetti straps so you don’t overheat in this Florida weather! Back in November I got the long pants version of this Hot Shot Strappy Romper and then about 3 weeks ago I decided to get the shorts version of the Hot Shot Strappy Romper and I love them both so much! I have the black color in the long version and like a taupe brown color in the shorts version and both are so cute! Like I mentioned, the top has skinny straps but it also has a square neckline and a fitted bust which is nice for not wearing a bra, especially working from home haha! But the shorts and pants version are both more relaxed and slightly boxy, which gives it a really flattering and easy fit. The fabric is soft cotton with a little bit of stretch, so it’s breathable and comfortable enough to wear all day! If I were going to style this outfit I think that it would be perfect with sneakers and a baseball hat for a really casual look, but would also be cute with sandals and an oversized denim jacket when the weather is a little cooler. A perfect easy outfit! I got both of these in the XL and it’s mostly for my chest area because they fit everywhere else maybe a little big but again, that is that oversized look that I like so I don’t mind!
Scout It Out Fleece Vest- This is THE CUTEST vest ever and I didn’t realize how much I needed a fleece vest until I got it! I can’t wear it now in Florida but over the winter season I was reaching for the Scout It Out Fleece Vest a ton! Especially in Florida as a layering piece because it was easy to add over a long sleeve shirt or lightweight sweatshirt. It is one of those pieces that you put it on and it completes the outfit with minimal effort and I love that! I also wore it about 20 times while I was in Iowa visiting family at different times of the winter as well. I really like that it adds a little bit of texture to an outfit too, which I feel like makes simple outfits feel a bit more styled. It’s one of those pieces that I didn’t expect to wear as much as I did and will next winter too! Another side note, there are dupes of this vest on Amazon and I bought one in a different color and returned it because I didn’t love it as much as this one! I have this in an XL and it’s perfect for layering.
Champ Is Here Pants- I got these pants in my Nuuly box awhile back and tried them on the first day I got them in the mail and purchased them immediately! I love the color combination of these but there are so many other good color combos on the website! These pants are such a good option for days when I want to be comfortable but still look a little more put together than leggings. The Champ Is Here Pants have a relaxed, slightly sporty vibe that I really love. I am wearing them in an XL and they fit perfectly. I paired them with this Amazon bodysuit in an XL but I have also paired them with this Amazon crop top in the past in an XL as well. They’re also great travel pants because they’re comfortable enough for long days but still look like an intentional outfit instead of just loungewear!
FP One Kaiden One-Piece- This is another piece that perfectly fits into my “effortless outfit” category. I love this romper so much that I now have it in two colors, it’s simple, looks relaxed but put together, seriously so comfortable and that is exactly what I am going for when I am working from home! I love how versatile it is, I wore it on a chillier day on our California trip with a jean jacket and sneakers. But I have also worn it here in Florida on a 80 degree day with sandals and it was just as comfortable! It’s simple, relaxed, and incredibly comfortable, which is exactly what I’m always looking for. When I want to look cute but don’t want to think about it too much I reach for this romper, I will absolutely be keeping my eye out for more colors in the future too because I see this being a major staple in my closet for awhile! I have both the green and the rust color in an XL and I absolutely love the fit of them!
At the end of the day being more intentional with the things that are in my closet has honestly been such a game changer for me. I feel better in what I wear, I’m shopping less but loving my clothes more, and my mornings are way easier because I’m not overwhelmed by too many options! Since making this change it hasn’t been about having a huge closet full of clothes but more about having pieces that I actually love to wear. If you’ve been thinking about making a similar shift, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s been such a positive change for me, and I’m really excited to continue building a closet that works for me! If you have any questions at all I would love to answer them! You can let me know those questions in the comments below or you can always send me an email at hello@emmatarynjones.com and I will get back to you as soon as possible!
Cheers!
